i downloaded and was playing a save file, saved and got off but when i got in again it was like i never even played.. do i need to do something specific for it to stay?
Run it in admin mode, go to properties>compatibility> and tick run as admin

Trying to fix the resolution but there’s no mansion and garden stuff file? Game works fine, its just flickering and in the wrong resolution.

I am extremely frustrated. I downloaded and installed everything. Everything! The Ultimate Collection, GraphicRules, DirectX 9 (or at least Ithink, it’s 10 PM and I’ve been doing this since 3 PM), all of it. The game still won’t open and continues to give me the DirectX 9 error. I’ve updated my graphics cards! I’ve restarted my computer more than once! Nothing works. Sims Castaway Stories runs perfectly, but this just refuses to start. Please give me a reason why!
Edit: My two graphic cards are Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
You need to force Sims 2 to use 1050Ti instead of UHD 630. Go to Settings > and type “Graphics Settings”. Click on the search result, and in the dropdown, select “Classic App”. Then select Sims2EP9.exe, and press ok. Now click on The Sims 2 (in the settings list ofc) and press options. Select High Performance and press OK. Now run the game to see the results
The reason why u need to use this because apparently NVIDIA Optimus isn’t detecting Sims 2 properly, so the 1050Ti decided to “nah, that’s a usual office apps, imma just change it to UHD”

Terrible news! It didn’t do anything… It still gives me the DirectX 9 error. I did what you said, I’ve run it in administrator, I’ve done just about everything I’ve read here in the comments to try and fix this! It makes me so sad that I can’t play this since I remember enjoying it a lot when I was younger. Thank you for your help anyway!

Yes, I’ve used that as well. It still doesn’t work, I’m afraid. I could certainly try to download everything once more and install everything again though, to see if anything’s changed.

When first downloaded ( haven’t started extracting yet ) it asks what app I want to open it with? And it won’t let me extract yet either.

when i try to install the dxwebsetup it shows me that the program couldn’t download the file

Does anyone know how to change the screen size/resolution? There’s only one option available. EDIT: it wont let me open GraphicRules in the sims 2 folder on my laptop for some reason so I cant change it there
Did you try opening it with Notepad++? It works for me everytime. Launch it in administrator mode just in case.
I installed the game. When I run the game , I keep geeting error ” Please insert the correct DVD ROM, Click Ok and restart the application”. I have mounted Sims2_Dvd_Gamedisk using powerISO. Kindly help. My daughter wants to play this game

Heyy, I’ve downloaded this on my Windows XP vm, however everytime i start up the game, when I get to the loading screen it just freezes and i have to kill it from task manager, and i basically cant play the game. Help pls?
Well what VM app do you use? If its virtualbox, nope it will not work. But if you have VMware, well there is a slight chance u can run the game (after installing VMware tools of course).
Or just run it in your host.
