If the Autorun function is enabled on your computer, the installer will launch automatically. Otherwise, double-click on "My Computer", and then on the DVD drive with the World Racing 2 DVD. Then double-click on "Setup.exe" and follow the directions on the monitor. The DVD must be in the drive in order to play World Racing 2. Once you have installed World Racing 2, open the "Start" menu, select "Programs", "World Racing 2", and then select "Play World Racing 2". ======================================================================= 3. GENERAL INFORMATION =========================== DirectX: World Racing 2 requires Microsoft DirectX 9.0c. The graphics and audio drivers on your computer must also be DirectX 9.0c compatible. Video Codec: World Racing 2 requires Windows Media Codec V8. If this is not found on your system, please install the codec package. You will find the installation file on the DVD in the "WMCodec" folder. Launch "wmp6cdcs.exe" manually. The utility will install the following media codecs: WM Video versions 7 and 8, WM Audio (all versions), WM Screen version 7, as well as other legacy codecs. You can find the installation file on the Microsoft website at the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp Windows XP: We recommend using the Windows XP drivers provided by the respective manufacturers (but Microsoft certified, if at all possible!). These are preferable to the default drivers installed by Microsoft during setup of the computer. Open programs: World Racing 2 makes optimal use of your system's resources. Therefore, we recommend that you close all other programs before starting World Racing 2. ======================================================================= 4. CONFIGURATION =============== You can configure World Racing 2 any time by double-clicking on the "WR2_Setup.exe" file in the World Racing 2 directory, or selecting it from the Start menu. The settings in this menu refer to highly specialized technical details. If you are not sure what settings you should choose, or if World Racing 2 no longer launches, click on the "Default" button. This will restore the default settings that should make it possible to start World Racing 2. Resolution: Choose the screen resolution for World Racing 2 here. The options listed in the pull-down menu depend on your graphics card and monitor. Window size: The size of the World Racing 2 window (if window mode is selected). Texture resolution: High-resolution textures look nicer, but require more memory on the graphics card. Reflection calculation: Determines the intervals at which reflections are recalculated. A short interval looks better, but reduces speed in return. View distance: Determines the distance to which the graphics should be calculated. A higher view distance reduces speed, but contributes greatly to the overall appearance of the game. Grass detail level: Determines the density of the displayed grass. In the highest level, the distance to which the grass is drawn is increased. Full screen: When this checkbox is marked, World Racing 2 will run in full screen mode (default setting). Center window: If World Racing 2 is running in window mode, the window will be centered on the monitor. Wide screen (16:9): World Racing 2 will run in wide screen format (default: off). Wide window (16:9): Like wide screen, but for window mode. Antialias: Enables edge-smoothing. Looks good, but game performance is diminished. The default is disabled. Play videos: Plays the intro video (default: on). Advanced: Opens the setup menu for advanced users (see below for description). Square pixels: A special mode for using the Matrox Parhelia graphics card. Sound on: Enables the sounds in World Racing 2. Music on: Enables the music in World Racing 2. 4 Channel Surround Sound: Enables Surround Sound (only available for suitable hardware). Defaults: Restores the default settings. Play: Saves the settings and starts World Racing 2. Advanced setup The "Advanced Setup" menu is geared toward advanced PC users and primarily contains options for fine-tuning the graphics. Clicking on the "Default" button can restore the defaults. ======================================================================= 5. PC EXTRAS =========== My Music files: We make it possible for players to listen to their own music files instead of the music from World Racing 2. To switch to your personalized music, place the music files in the "My Music" folder in the installation directory of World Racing, and use the music manager in the main menu to manage the selections. You can also create subfolders in the "My Music" folder to store whole CDs. The Music Manager can handle the following formats: .WAV, .WMA, .MP3, .MP2, .OGG, .AC3, .AIF, .AIFF. Of course, you must make sure that the media codec is already installed. These codecs are not a part of World Racing 2. It is also possible to create "HARDLINKS" in this folder instead of copying the music files there. Unfortunately, simple shortcuts do not work and additional programs are required to create a hardlink under Windows. These programs and a description of their use can be found in many places in the Internet. ======================================================================= 6. PROBLEMS, TIPS & TRICKS ================================== If the mission "A Little Briton" is not activated despite an indicated and achieved 4%, you require additional Speedbucks. Simply drive the previous drift mission again and let a few more Speedbucks drift your way. Then you will be able to continue. A "follow-up mission" in a group will only be activated once the previous mission is properly completed. For trophy missions, earning the gold, silver, or merely bronze, is not enough! "Top speed x times": In some missions, you must achieve a top speed. After reaching the specified value, you must maintain it for at least 0.5 seconds for it to count. Afterwards, another point will be awarded every 5 seconds as long as you do not fall below the speed. Antivirus programs may cause problems with the game. We strongly recommend that you temporarily disable any antivirus programs, as well as any other programs running in the background, while installing or playing the game. Cracks and stutters in the playback of racetrack sounds can occur if the frame rate is too low, and is technically unavoidable. Check your sound card drivers and update them if necessary. Reduce the view distance in the game or the resolution in the setup and test whether the problems become less or stop altogether. World Racing 2 does not support DirectX 7 graphics cards. Please use models compatible with DirectX 8 or 9. Integrated graphics solutions, so-called on-board chips, are also not supported. ======================================================================= 7. MULTIPLAYER ============= Overview ======= Explanations on making a connection Player (client) or organizer (host)? - LAN or Internet? Firewalls Ports Data bandwidth World Racing 2 Multiplayer Lounge Start Multiplayer Lounge 2 Local Internet Available sessions Game info Players Create game Lobby (staging room) Password Download cars Chat Game characteristics Tracks and vehicles Options Chat Players During the race Point distribution Pausing the game Explanations on making a connection ================================= Player (client) or organizer (host)? - LAN or Internet? Using the included World Racing 2 Multiplayer Lounge, you can see a list of current games (sessions) that have been created by organizers (hosts) (see the World Racing 2 Multiplayer Lounge chapter). There is a difference if you want to play in a LAN (Local Area Network) or over the Internet. In a LAN, all games are located automatically on the Internet. This list is downloaded from a central server (GameSpy). Please note that it is not possible to join a game that either already has 6 players, or is protected by a password you do not know. In order not to disturb players during a race, it is only possible to join a game between races. If you cannot find a game you can or want to join, you have the option of creating a new game yourself as the organizer (host). Of course, you will be alone in the game at first. Other players (clients) have to find you in the list of current games and then join you. Bear in mind that if you quit the game as organizer (host), the players (clients) are also forced to quit! World Racing 2 uses the TCP/IP protocol for data transfer. Firewalls Firewalls are used to monitor and/or block incoming and outgoing signals. If you use a firewall, configure it so that World Racing 2 is allowed to create TCP connections. If you are organizing/hosting a game, you must also allow UDP connections. Ports World Racing 2 uses the UDP ports 54321 and 54322 (if you are the host) to distribute information about the current game to the LAN. Normally, TCP port 54323 is used for data transfer. This can be freely chosen by the host. For clients, this port will be provided by the host. To open a game on the Internet as host, the GameSpy server on UDP port 54324 will query the data. Note that some ports may already be used by other programs and, therefore, are not available to World Racing 2. Data bandwidth World Racing 2 attempts to use the maximum data transfer rate of your Internet connection. If possible, you should disable all other programs that use the Internet, such as your Internet browser, chat programs, eMule and the like. If you use a volume/time-based tariff, please note that playing for a longer time via the Internet may result in additional costs. World Racing 2 Multiplayer Lounge ========================= Multiplayer Lounge 2 To play World Racing 2 in Multiplayer Mode, start the program "Multiplayer Lounge 2" from the shortcut on your desktop that was created during the installation. First you'll see a dialog box to enter or select your username. This name will be used to log into the game and in the Internet chat rooms. If you have a GameSpy account, set the checkmark at "Connect to GameSpy" and enter the email address and password associated with your GameSpy account. Using your registered GameSpy name ensures that someone else is not already using it. The Multiplayer functions are divided into two areas using tab pages: Local The upper half shows all the games currently running on the local network and information about each game. In the lower half, you can select the settings for hosting your own game. If you've installed additional vehicles, you can choose which will be available in Multiplayer racing. Internet Just like the local tab, the upper half contains a list of the available games and information about a selected game. It also lists the players already involved in the selected game. The lower half contains a chat window and a list of players in the World Racing 2 Chat with you. Here you can exchange tips and experiences and find opponents willing to race against you. Available Sessions In both the "Local" tab and the "Internet" tab, there is a list of available players at the top left. The name, the ping time and the current number of players are displayed. In the first column of the player list, a symbol is displayed if a password is required to join and whether it is possible to join the game. If a race is already underway or if the maximum number of players has already been reached, you won't be able to join the game. To join a game, double-click on it or enter the name of the game in the text line below the list and click "Join". Game Info When you select a game from the list, the settings are listed in the "Game Info" report. If additional vehicles can be used, a list is displayed. Each available car has a green checkmark beside it. If a car you need is not installed, this is shown by a red "x". Players In Internet games, the players taking part in a game or those in the staging room of a game are listed. If you're in a game, the players' points and the success rate for this session are displayed. Create a game You'll find all the settings you need to create a new game in the lower half of the "Local" tab. To open a new game, simply enter the name you want to give the game in the text box under the list and click on "Create". A dialog will appear for you to determine if the game is to be password protected and the maximum number of players who can take part in it. Staging Room In Internet games, the game is not launched straight away. Instead, a staging room is created. Here, the organizer (host) selects the settings for the game. Other players can enter the staging room from the games list or talk to each other in the private chat area. At the same time, the players can see the settings the organizer (host) is making. Players indicate that they are ready to start by setting the checkmarks to "Ready". In the "Game Name" field, they can give the session the name they want players to see in the list. The "Port" field defines the network port to be used to exchange data with other players (clients). Please read the section below on "Passwords" for more information on the "Password" field. In the "Max Ping Time" field, you can define for Internet games whether only players who do not exceed this maximum ping time may join the game. Fair play means not taking shortcuts. To ensure that all players adhere to this rule, you can use the "Max Shortcut Time" field to define the number of seconds by which a player can shorten his or her time during a race before he or she is disqualified. The "Reset Time" field defines how long the reset process should last if a player presses the Reset button. Setting a reset time greater than 3-4 seconds ensures that the Reset button cannot be abused to prevent damage during a spinout. Clicking on "Start" means that the Multiplayer Lounge is made smaller and the game starts. In an Internet game all players who are in the staging room and have clicked on "Ready" are automatically logged into the game. Players who want to join the game later bypass the staging room and are directly connected to the game. Password The organizer (host) can give the game a password, which he or she should communicate to the other players who want to play. Password protected games and staging rooms are shown in the list with a key symbol next to them. Before joining a password-protected game, you will need to enter the valid password in the "Password" field of the dialog that appears. Download Cars At the start of the game, the organizer (host) defines which additional cars are to be used in the game. If the game is to be played without downloaded cars, every player can play. If the game is to be played with downloaded cars, all players (clients) must have the same vehicles installed as the organizer (host). More vehicles can be installed, but cannot be additionally offered in the game. The "Game Info" area lists the cars needed for the game. If a player (client) starts the game, the organizer (host) will be asked for a list of the "Download Cars" that must be available in order to play. This may take some time if a race is currently being run. Once the race has ended, a player who joined the game late can see the list. If the player (client) does not have all the required cars installed, he or she cannot join the game. To ensure that the cars cannot be manipulated, check totals are created for each car and compared with the organizer's (host's)list. If a car is not 100% identical to the organizer's (host's) lists, the player cannot join the game. The organizer (host) can save the list of selected cars and load it again via the selection list during a future session. Chat Select the "Internet" tab and the Multiplayer Lounge connects to the GameSpy chat server and automatically enters the World Racing 2 chat room. Type a message in the text box at the lower edge of the window and hit Return or click on "Send" to send it. All messages you and other players send are displayed in the large chat area. This area also shows when someone enters or leaves the chat room. The list on the right-hand side shows all the members in the chat room. If a player creates a new game, a private staging room is created. Only those players who have entered this staging room can write and read messages. If you move to a staging room, you will leave the general World Racing 2 chat. When a game is started, all the players leave the staging room. Special Features ================== Tracks and Vehicles In principle, all the same tracks and vehicles that are available in Standard Mode are also available in Multiplayer Mode. The "Vehicles" menu shows vehicles that can be selected by any player. An "Other Players" submenu is provided so that players can decide among themselves who will take which vehicle. If you open this submenu, you can select a player and his or her chosen vehicle from the list. By confirming, you can select the other player's vehicle as your own. If everyone in the game wants to drive the same car, decide in the staging room which player will select it. Then all other players can use the submenu to select that player's vehicle. Options In Multiplayer Mode, certain settings must be the same for all players. The organizer (host) chooses these settings, which include the type of race (Simulation/Arcade) and the vehicle damage. If the options are changed during a Multiplayer game, these settings will also be saved. If you play World Racing 2 on your own (in Single Player Mode), you can reset or change these options to whatever you choose. Chat You can activate Chat at any point during the game using the F3 key. If the Chat is activated, you can type a message in the line at the bottom of the screen and hit the RETURN key to send it to all the other players. You can also use the F3 key to cancel the Chat. Text messages are limited in length to 64. Unfortunately, no umlauts can be used in Chat. The Chat bar can be used to list player information and to "Kick out" unwanted players. These options are available only to the organizer (host). The following commands are available: - "/LIST" Displays information on the session name, player name, IP address, ping and Player ID. - "/KICK #[NUMBER]" This command is used to remove a player from the current session. "[NUMBER]" is the number assigned to the player using the LIST command. - "/BAN #[NUMBER]" Like "/KICK", but the player being "kicked out" will not be able to log back into the game. - "/BIGBAN #[NUMBER]" Like "/BAN", but the "banned" player will not be able to log into any of your games, ever. - "/CLOSE" Closes the current session so that no more new players can log in. - "/OPEN" Cancels the "/CLOSE" command. - "/PASSW [PASSWORD]" Assigns a new password to the session. "[PASSWORD]" is the new password. If no password is entered, the session is no longer password protected. Players A maximum of 6 players are allowed in each game. Players (clients) may join or leave the game at any time. If the organizer (host) leaves the game, the game is over for all players. If a player (client) joins the game late, he or she must wait while the other players finish a race. All players (clients) must wait until the organizer (host) has finished planning the next race before they can see the details and choose a vehicle. The organizer (host) cannot confirm the next race until all players (clients) have finished the previous one. In a change to the game's predecessor, "World Racing", new players can log in during a race unless the organizer (host) is racing alone. During the Race A race is not finished until all players have reached the finish. There is no way to pause a race. Only the organizer (host) can use ESC to end the race prematurely for all players. You can use the F4 key to turn the player name display (above the vehicles) on or off. Players who leave the game during a race (due to a dropped connection, for example), keep their championship points if they return to the game while the race is still in progress. If, in the meantime, another player has joined the game, the points are allocated to that player instead. You can use this method to give your point account to another player. Allocation of Points Points are allocated depending on the number of players in the game. Every participating player increases the total number of championship points that can be allocated. This means that even players who join a game in progress can earn a top place in the championship. Pausing the Game The Championship menu contains a "Pause" option. Confirming this option using RETURN activates a "Pause" mode. This can be used if someone wants to take a break for one or more races and play again later. The "Pause" mode can be activated only by players (clients). The organizer (host) is responsible for planning the race and cannot take a break. ======================================================================= 8.
