MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Windows 98/ME/2000/XP PIII 500 Mhz 64MB RAM 500 MB Hard Disk Space 4x CD ROM Drive 16MB DirectX 9.0a compatible video card DirectX Compatible Sound Card NOTE: DirectX 9.0a must be installed on your computer in order for Crusades to run properly. DirectX 9.0a is included in the root directory on the game CD in the "DirectX9" folder. To install DirectX9.0a run "dxsetup" found in the "DirectX9" folder. II. INSTALLATION AUTORUN: 1. Turn the computer on and start Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Please close any other programs you have running. 2. Place the Crusades CD in the CD-ROM drive and wait 10 seconds. The install screen should appear. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. NOTE: If the Autorun feature is disabled or does not work properly, please follow one of the manual installation methods below. MANUAL INSTALLATION METHOD ONE: 1. Turn the computer on and start Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Please close any other programs you have running. 2. Place the Crusades CD in the CD-ROM drive. 3. Click [Start] and then click on [Run]. 4. Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive (usually "D") followed by a colon (:) and the word "Launch". Then click the [OK] button. (Example: "D:LAUNCH") 5. The install screen should appear. Follow the on-screen instructions. MANUAL INSTALLATION METHOD TWO: 1. Turn the computer on and start Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Please close any other programs you have running. 2. Place the Crusades CD in the CD-ROM drive. 3. Double-click on the [My Computer] icon from your desktop. 4. Double-click on the CD-ROM icon labeled [Crusades]. 5. Double-click on the [Launch] icon. 6. The install screen should appear. Follow the on-screen instructions. GETTING STARTED AFTER INSTALLATION: 1. Place the Crusades CD in the CD-ROM drive. 2. Click on [Start] and then select [Programs]. 3. Select Activision Value, Crusades, Play Crusades to start the game. III. GAMEPLAY MODES On the main menu you are given three options for gameplay: Western Campaign, Eastern Campaign and Instant Action. Select Instant Action to jump into a random skirmish between the Western Crusaders and Eastern Infidels. Choose the Western Campaign to lead the Crusaders from the west in a journey through the Arabian dessert to free Jerusalem from the grip of the Eastern Infidels. Choose the Eastern Campaign to lead the Eastern Infidels in an effort to defend Constantinople from an invasion of crusaders from the far west. NOTE: For additional gameplay instructions and controls, refer to the Crusades Manual file found on the Game CD and on the Windows start menu in the Activision Value\Crusades program group. IV. CONTROLS Unit selection: Select single unit: left-click unit Select multiple units: left-click and drag, all units inside box become selected Group units: select desired units, then press CTRL + # (1,2,3,...,0) Select grouped units: press assigned # (1,2,3,...,0) Add unit(s) to active group: shift + left-click unit Camera Zoom in/out: mousewheel up/down Movement & Attack: Move unit(s): right-click desired destination, the selected unit(s) will move to the designated area Attack: right-click desired target, the selected unit(s) will attack the designated target Forced attack: right-click desired area, the selected units(s) will attack the designated area. Useful for ordering archers to attack a specific area, or with rank 4 archers, create a wall of fire Pick up item: right-click desired item, the selected unit(s) will pick up the designated item Tents & Unit Creation: There are three types of tents: Infantry, Archer and Crusader tents. Tents are your source for recruiting more units of each type. Tents may only be built within close proximity to other tents you control. To build a tent, left-click on the type you want under "Build Tents" on the lower right of the user interface. The tent will then appear in your mouse cursor. Move the tent to where you would like to place it; the tent will appear green if it is over an acceptable location to be built and will appear red if it can't be built there. Once you have chosen a location to build your tent, pressing the right-mouse button will place the tent. To create a unit, click on the tent of the unit type you wish to recruit and then select "Recruit" on the lower right of the user interface. You may click recruit multiple times to queue a number of units to be created. Once created, the unit will walk out of the tent and move to the rally point set for that tent. A flag denotes the rally point, which is visible when the tent is selected. To set a new rally point, select the tent and then right-click on the desired rally point location. Mini-Map: Left click on the mini-map to center the camera on the selected location. Right click on the mini-map to move the selected unit(s) to the selected location. If the recording medium is found defective within 90 days of original purchase, Activision agrees to replace, free of charge, any product discovered to be defective within such period upon its receipt of the Product, postage paid, with proof of the date of purchase, as long as the Program is still being manufactured by Activision. In the event that the Program is no longer available, Activision retains the right to substitute a similar program of equal or greater value. This warranty is limited to the recording medium containing the Program as originally provided by Activision and is not applicable to normal wear and tear. INDEMNITY. You agree to indemnify, defend and hold Activision, its partners, licensors, affiliates, contractors, officers, directors, employees and agents harmless from all damages, losses and expenses arising directly or indirectly from your acts and omissions to act in using the Product pursuant to the terms of this Agreement MISCELLANEOUS. This Agreement represents the complete agreement concerning this license between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements and representations between them. It may be amended only by a writing executed by both parties. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable and the remaining provisions of this Agreement shall not be affected. This Agreement shall be construed under California law as such law is applied to agreements between California residents entered into and to be performed within California, except as governed by federal law and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Los Angeles, California.
