This document contains last-minute information about Race Driver and other information not found in the manual. It also contains information relating to general problems or questions you may have regarding the game or the set up of your computer. ------------------------------------------- Minimum system requirements ------------------------------------------- Processor Pentium 3 700mhz / Athlon 700mhz RAM 128Mb Graphics Card Rage 128 32Mb / TNT2 32Mb / G400 32Mb Sound Card SoundBlaster compatible Operating System Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP DirectX DirectX 8.1b ------------------------------------------- Recommended system requirements ------------------------------------------- Processor Pentium 4 2ghz / AthlonXP 2000+ RAM 512Mb Graphics Card GeForce 3 Ti 500 64mb Sound Card SoundBlaster Audigy Operating System Windows XP DirectX DirectX 8.1b ------------------------------------------- Installation ------------------------------------------- Place the Race Driver disc in your CD drive and close the disc tray. Wait a few seconds for the drive to initialise. If you have Autorun enabled on your PC, Race Driver will automatically begin to install. If you don’t have Autorun enabled, go to the Start Menu and select RUN. Type D:\setup (replace ‘D’ with the drive letter of your CD) and hit [ENTER]. The installation program will initialise; follow the on-screen instructions to progress through the Installation. Race Driver requires the presence of DirectX 8.1b on your system. You will be given an option to set up DirectX 8.1b during installation. During installation, you will also be given the opportunity to register your game online. This is not a requirement – you can register your game at any time following installation at www.codemasters.com. If you are using a dialup connection to access the Internet, but do not have this configured to activate automatically on request, you may need to initiate your connection prior to beginning installation if you want to register online. It is advisable to have no other programs (other than those required to access the Internet) running on your PC during installation. ------------------------------------------- Creative’s EAX Advanced HD™ in Race Driver Race Driver uses Creative Labs’ EAX Advanced HD™ Environmental Audio technology to accurately simulate sonic effects such as early reflections and reverberation. The EAX acoustic models are dynamically modified as your car hurtles round the track, providing the most realistic audio experience of any racing game. EAX Advanced HD™ effects sound best on systems with Creative’s SoundBlaster Audigy and Audigy2 soundcards. ------------------------------------------- Game options 1) Simulation mode controls Simulation mode provides a more physically accurate mechanics model. This can be enabled by entering the bonus code 'SIM' on the bonus screen. This is not recommended for digital controllers, for example the keyboard, as they do not provide the subtlety required to be able to control the car well. ------------------------------------------- Configuration 1) Controls Controls for Race Driver can be set in the front end. The default controls are Steer Left Left arrow Steer Right Right arrow Accelerate Up arrow Brake Down arrow Gear Up A Gear Down Z Handbrake Space Show damage Right CTRL Look Left , Look Right . Look behind Right Shift Change camera C 2) 5.1 Surround sound balancing We have found some surround sound cards to be overly quiet in the central speaker. Race Driver can be set up to adjust the relative sound balance of the centre speaker by modifying the following parameter in the pchardwareconfig.ini, which is located in the same directory as the RaceDriver exe file. CenterSpeakerVolumeBoost=0.000000 This parameter can range from 0.000000 (normal) through to 1.000000 (no sound from any speaker other than the centre). We found a value of 0.8719 worked for our problem soundcard. 3) Surround Gaming on Matrox Parhelia Race Driver supports the Surround Gaming resolutions on the Matrox Parhelia card. Simply select your desired resolution from the Hardware Setup program and save the settings before running the game. 4) Flickering display on Matrox Parhelia If you run the game in 32-bit on the Matrox Parhelia, you may experience a rapid flickering caused by the sun specular highlight on the road. In order to stop this happening, edit your pchardwareconfig.ini and ensure that alpha effects are disabled with the line: EnableAlphaEffects=0 (by default this value will be set to 1) ------------------------------------------- Supported Graphics Cards ------------------------------------------- 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 AGP 32mb 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64mb ATI Radeon 32mb AGP ATI Radeon 32mb DDR AGP ATI Radeon 64mb DDR AGP ATI Radeon 7500 64mb DDR ATI Radeon 8500 64mb DDR ATI Radeon 9500 DDR ATI Radeon 9700 128mb DDR ATI Rage 128 32mb AGP Matrox G400 32mb AGP Matrox G400 DualHead 32mb AGP Matrox G450 DualHead 32mb AGP Matrox G550 DualHead 32mb DDR AGP Matrox Parhelia 128Mb DDR AGP Nvidia GeForce 256 32mb AGP Nvidia GeForce DDR 32mb AGP Nvidia GeForce2 GTS 32mb AGP Nvidia GeForce2 MX 32mb AGP Nvidia GeForce2 Ultra 64mb Nvidia GeForce3 64mb DDR Nvidia GeForce3 TI200 64MB DDR Nvidia GeForce3 TI500 64MB DDR Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 Nvidia GeForce4 MX 460 Nvidia GeForce4 TI4200 64Mb Nvidia GeForce4 TI4200 128Mb Nvidia GeForce4 TI4400 128Mb Nvidia GeForce4 TI4600 128Mb Nvidia nForce Nvidia Quadro 64mb AGP Nvidia Riva TNT II 32mb AGP Nvidia Riva TNT II m64 32mb AGP Nvidia Riva TNT II Ultra 32mb AGP SiS Xabre 64mb AGP ------------------------------------------- Known Issues Game Saving does not work when user has only guest privileges in Windows 2000 or XP Please ensure that there are sufficient privileges as to allow write access to the "save" folder (in the directory where Race Driver is installed). Game frame rate may be erratic if EAX is enabled when using Creative's drivers prior to March 2003. If you experience this problem, disable EAX in the game options menu, or obtain newer drivers when they become available. On Windows 2000 and XP, the game may lose focus when started from the "Save and Play" button in the hardware setup. If this happens the game will minimise, and you can continue to play by clicking on it in the task bar. The hardware setup program may choose unsuitable default settings on systems that have more than one display adapter (graphics card). If this happens, the setting can be changed manually in the 'advanced settings' section. Very low frame rates will reduce the controller responsiveness, reduce detail settings to remedy this. Stuttering frame rate when a controller is unplugged. If you normally have a controller plugged in to your pc, but have recently unplugged it then you may experience bad stuttering of the frame rate in the game. This may be caused by Windows trying to find the unplugged controller. If you experience this problem, please ensure that you also remove the drivers of any unplugged controllers prior to running the game. Archived by OldGamesDownload.com on 26th November, 2019
