Autoplay If the Windows Autoplay feature is enabled on your computer, the installer will begin when you insert the Shrek(r) SuperSlam CD into your CD-ROM drive. Click the "Install" button to start the installation. If the game is already installed on your system, the Shrek(r) SuperSlam splash screen will appear. Press "Play" to start game. If the Autoplay feature is disabled, you can begin the installation by doing the following: a) Go to the Start Menu and select Run. b) Type D:\SETUP.EXE (assuming D is your CD-ROM drive letter) and press Enter. -or- a) Double-click on My Computer b) Double-Click your CD-ROM drive icon. c) Double-click on SETUP.EXE. Windows 98 may not be setup to AutoPlay CDs. To check, perform the following steps: a. Open the Windows 98/ME Control Panel folder and double-click on the System icon. b. Click on the Device Manager tab. Click on the plus sign next to CD-ROM, select your CD-ROM and choose Properties. c. Click on the Settings tab. Insert a check mark in the box to the left of Auto Insert Notification and select OK. 3. DirectX Detection & Installation During the Shrek(r) SuperSlam "Typical" install setup, the install process will automatically detect DirectX 9.0c on your computer. If it is not already installed, Microsoft DirectX 9.0c will be installed on your computer. DirectX 9.0c is a set of sound, video, input and network functions developed by Microsoft. DirectX 9.0c is necessary to run Shrek(r) SuperSlam. If you select "Custom" install setup, you will have the option to install DirectX 9.0c on your computer. It is recommended that you choose to update to the newest version of DirectX. If you already have other Windows 98/ME/2000/XP games on your computer, chances are you already have a version of DirectX installed. In this case, the Microsoft installer will detect and overwrite any previous versions with DirectX 9.0c. At that point, you will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. If, however, you already have DirectX 9.0c installed on your computer, the Microsoft DirectX 9.0c installer will detect it and not overwrite any files. You will not need to restart your computer after installation in order to run Shrek(r) SuperSlam . If you choose not to install DirectX 9.0c when you install the game, you can manually install it later. To do so, use the following instructions: 1. Place your Shrek(r) SuperSlam disc in the CD-ROM drive. The Launch screen should appear. (See the AutoPlay section above if it does not appear.) 2. Click on the "Extras" button. 3. Click on "DirectX" and follow the installation process. When DirectX installation finishes, you will need to restart your computer for the new drivers to work. If you encounter the following error message, then you have tried to start the game without the correct version of DirectX installed on your computer: "DirectX 9.0c is not installed on this computer. Install it and try again." You will need to follow the directions above to install DirectX before starting the game. VIDEO ISSUES 1. Monitors - Please make sure your monitor supports the game resolution you are trying to play in. To check what resolutions your monitor supports, do the following: a) Open up My Computer b) Double-click on Control Panel c) Find the Display icon and open it d) Choose the Settings tab e) Locate the resolution pointer in the Desktop or Screen Area box and drag it to the far right The resolution choice shown is the maximum resolution your monitor is capable of displaying. NOTE: Please make sure your monitor type is properly specified to insure correct reporting of available video resolutions. 2. Windowed Mode Windowed mode is not a supported feature of Shrek(r) SuperSlam . 3. Changing Brightness and Contrast There are no Brightness and Contrast controls within the game, please check your video card drivers to see if you can make adjustments on your computer. GENERAL ISSUES 1. Alt-Tab & Alt-Enter Using Alt-Tab or Alt-Enter to exit Shrek(r) SuperSlam and switch to another application is not recommended. While you may be able to Alt-Tab/Alt-Enter to exit Shrek(r) SuperSlam , and the game will remain running in the task bar, you may not be able to recover the game by Alt-Tabbing/Alt-Entering back to it. At this point, you may have to use the Windows Task Manager to close Shrek(r) SuperSlam. Hold down the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys to bring up the Task Manager, then select Shrek(r) SuperSlam from the list of programs currently running and hit the End Task button. Alt-Tab & Alt-Enter are not supported features of Shrek(r) SuperSlam . 2. Uninstall Problems in Windows XP If you receive the following error while attempting to uninstall Shrek(r) SuperSlam : Internal Failure Error number: 0x80040707 You are attempting to uninstall on a Power User account when the game was installed on an Administrator account. You'll have to uninstall Shrek(r) SuperSlam on the account you were logged into when you installed it. Log out of Windows and login to the Administrator account on your system. Then you will be able to uninstall Shrek(r) SuperSlam normally. 3. Uninstalling with Antivirus Software Enabled The uninstallation process may take more time if an antivirus software (like Norton Utilities(TM) or McAfee(R)) is currently running, even if the antivirus software is running in the background. Although Shrek(r) SuperSlam will still uninstall correctly with this software running, disabling any antivirus program will make this process run faster. You will be able to uninstall Shrek(r) SuperSlam normally. 4. Options for Lower End Systems For best game performance, it is recommended that lower end systems use the Low Detail setting. 5. Audio Issues If your system has one of the following audio cards, you may experience some missing audio while playing Shrek(r) SuperSlam: * SoundMAX(R) Integrated * Creative Sound Blaster(R) Audigy(R) 2 NX * Creative Sound Blaster(R) Audigy(R) LS If you are using one of the audio cards listed above, changing the Sound Acceleration option to "Basic Acceleration" will correct the problem: a) Go to the Start Menu and select Run. Type"dxdiag" into the menu. b) After dxdiag is finished running, select the Sound tab at the top. c) Move the slider bar for the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level so the setting reads "Basic Acceleration." The missing audio will now play during the Shrek(r) SuperSlam game. 6. Keyboard Configuration Pressing Numpad Minus before entering the Character Selection screen allows the player to deactivate Keyboard Scheme 2 so that a single keyboard player can now use all Keyboard keys. FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY! To modify the game's keyboard configuration, you need to modify the config.ini file before running the game. The below chart list the codes for most of the keys on the keyboard. In Config.ini there is a section titled [Keyboard]. Below this is the name of each control. For example: [Keyboard] UP=17 - 200 This means that Up uses the two keys valued 17 or 200. Looking in the chart below you can see that 17 is W and 200 is Up Arrow. If you want to change either of these, replace the value with another value from the chart. Be sure to maintain the space dash space in between the two values. Make sure that the new value is not used under another control in the keyboard section or you may get unpredictable results. The left value is for Scheme 1. The right value is for Scheme 2. If you want to return to the default controls, you can remove specific control lines or the entire keyboard section from the config.ini. Upon running, the game will then return to using the default controls and write these back into the config.ini file. Saved Game Files When saving the game a file named "(username)-ShrekSuperSlam.sav" will be created in the "data\saves" subfolder of where the game was installed, where the "(username)" portion is the name of the user that was logged into Windows when the game was saved. This allows different users of the PC to progress through the game individually. 8. Gamepad Controllers Gamepad controllers must be plugged into your computer before starting the game. Gamepads plugged into your computer after beginning the game will not function.
