Welcome to EXTREME ASSAULT (C) Blue Byte 1997 ==================================== In this file you will find important information about Extreme Assault that, due to time constraints, could not be printed with the manual. Please read this entire file carefully. If you still have questions or problems, then contact our hotline. Information on the hotline can be found in the manual on page 2. ==================================== 1) Optimizing Slower PCs ------------------------ a. When Extreme Assault is played on slower PCs, it is recommended that you start the computer directly in DOS or the DOS mode in Windows 95. Generally, this will produce the best processing performance possible. b. To keep the load times during the game as short as possible, we recommend the use of SMARTDRIVE under DOS. For information concerning usage and/or installation, please refer to your DOS manual. c. If you switch the virtual cockpit and/or the fog effects off, you will notice that the game plays decidedly faster. 2) PCs with Smaller Amounts of Main Memory Available ----------------------------------- a. If you play Extreme Assault on a computer with 16MB RAM under Windows 95, problems may occur with the allocation of memory. If this does occur, shut down all other programs and start Extreme Assault by double clicking on the START file in the game directory. b. If that doesn't help, you should copy the INIT.LOW file to the INIT.CFG file and then restart Extreme Assault. You may have to reconfigure the controls. c. If problems occur with the automatic allocation of memory (this could mean that the program will crash), you can switch the automatic memory function off. To do so you need to start Extreme Assault through the use of the "START FORBIDAUTOALLOC". Problems with automatic allocation will show up as extremely long loading times or a general instability of the program itself. If you have such problems give our hotline a call. d. If the game does not start in spite of these measures, start Extreme Assault with the LOWMEM.BAT. This batch file automatically presets all applicable game parameters to the minimum values. 3) Problems with Graphics Cards ------------------------------- Remember: Run the "Graphics Resolution" program during the installation. This program detects all the resolutions supported by your graphics card and switches off all unsupported resolutions. a. If your graphics card is not able to support 65000 colors (High color) in 640 X 480 pixels, you need to start Extreme Assault with LOWCOL.BAT. This means, however, that the only resolution available in the "Resolution" menu is the "256 color mode". b. If the graphic presentation is deficient, check to see if your computer has an updated version of the VESA-driver installed. For problems and questions please see your PC distributor. 4) Programmable Joysticks ------------------------------- We have included pre-programed setup files for many popular programmable joysticks in the JOYSTICK directory. To use them simply change to the JOYSTICK directory and run the JOYSTICK.BAT file. Then download the appropriate files to your joystick. You may need to customize the joystick keys for these files to work properly. In the Controls Setup menu choose between either the 4-button or Thurustmaster joysticks. 5) M-Path ------------------------------- We Added M-Player internet play to the network play options. Simply select M-Player in the Network menu. You must setup a M-Player account before you can play on this service. Please see http://www.mplayer.com for more information. Have fun playing Extreme Assault. Your Blue Byte Team Archived by OldGamesDownload.com on 2nd June, 2020
