Chicken Run(TM) Interactive Rights held by Blitz Games Ltd. Story ===== Ginger is a chicken with a mission. Living in Hut 17, behind the barbed-wire fences and searchlights of the Tweedy Farm, she begins to fear for the lives of all her friends. In her heart of hearts she knows there's something better out there in the big wide world. Ginger is determined to lead the chickens in an escape to freedom (before it's too late). To do this she enlists the help of Rocky - a smooth-talking American Rooster - and Nick and Fetcher, two rats who'll scrounge anything for a price (eggs!). Together they try many wild and wacky escape plans to flee the coop. This is Chicken Run(TM) - the game based on the worldwide movie hit! It's your chance to help Ginger, Rocky, Mac and their friends to escape before they're turned into chicken pies. Hardware Specification ====================== The minimum hardware specification to run this game is as follows: P200 MMX 100% DirectX 7 compatible 4MB 3D graphics card 32MB RAM 100MB hard drive space 4xCDROM drive 100% DirectX 7 compatible Sound Card Microsoft Windows '95/'98 DirectX 7 The recommended hardware specification is as follows: PII 300 100% DirectX 7 compatible 8MB 3D graphics card 64MB RAM 100MB hard drive space 8xCDROM drive 100% DirectX 7 compatible Sound Card Microsoft Windows '98 Note: Chicken Run(TM) is also compliant with Windows 95a. Note: We recommend that you do NOT use the Alt+Tab function to minimise Chicken Run(TM) during play. Doing so may cause graphical problems when you return to the game. Please read through the DirectX 7.0 section of this document. This section has information that is vital to successfully running the game on your system. Notes on Laptop/Notebook computers ================================== We did not test Chicken Run(TM) with laptop systems and therefore we cannot guarantee compatibility. Due to the wide variety of hardware configurations that ship with today's laptop systems, it would be impossible to configure a game that would work with all of them. Many laptops are limited in their ability to be used as a gaming machine because of memory configurations, their microchannel architecture, port configurations (i.e. no place for a joystick) and sound systems that are primarily designed to be used with productivity software. The other common problem is that laptop systems will attempt to compress the traditional version of the standard 101 function keyboard (found on almost all desktop systems) into a much smaller key configuration. This is usually done by relying on multi-function keys that allow the user to assign different functions to the same key. Unfortunately, this has been known to cause problems with our games. Notes about operating using Windows NT/Windows 2000 =================================================== Chicken Run(TM) was not tested on computers using either Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows ME. Although the game might run, its performance and stability is questionable. We do not provide support for the game using these operating systems. DirectX 7.0 ============ The game uses Microsoft's DirectX 7.0. In order for you to play the game, you must have DirectX7.0-compliant drivers for your video card and sound card. Please note that although DirectX 7.0 is installed with the game, your video and sound card drivers will not be upgraded to DirectX 7.0 drivers. You will need to obtain the latest DirectX7.0 drivers from your card manufacturer. Memory and Performance ====================== While the game will run fine in 32MB of RAM, your playing experience will be smoother if you have at least 64MB. Regardless of how much memory you have, you can maximize your available memory and increase the overall performance of the game engine by doing the following: - Closing any open windows - Shutting down all other programs, including menu-bar programs like ICQ - Defragmenting your hard drive Resolution ========== The game has been locked to one resolution - 640x480 [in 16-bit colour depth]. The reason for doing this is to avoid graphical problems associated with scaling fonts and overlays at higher resolutions. This means that the custom fonts and overlays used in Chicken Run(TM) will always be displayed correctly. Autoplay ========== If the Windows® AutoPlay feature is enabled on your computer, the Chicken Run(TM) Launch screen will automatically appear when you insert the Chicken Run(TM) CD into your CD-ROM drive. Simply click on Install and follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation. If the AutoPlay feature is disabled, you can begin the installation by doing the following: a) Go to the Start Menu and select Run. b) Type D:\SETUP.EXE (assuming D is your CD-ROM drive letter) and press Enter. -or- a) Double-click on the "My Computer" icon b) Double-click on your CD-ROM drive icon. c) Double-click on SETUP.EXE.
