For gameplay tips, look in the Big Game Hunter Platinum Help File under the “Tips” topic. For customer support, contact Activision Value Customer Support (see Section VI: Customer and Technical Support). Q: I know I at least wounded the animal. Why didn't it go down? A: Any number of factors can affect your shot: power, wind, sighting. If you need help figuring out why your shot didn't do the trick, turn on the Expert Tips option to get help from your guide, Rick. Q. I turn the Volume all the way up on the Options page, but I can't hear any sound. What's wrong? A. Make sure you have plugged in and turned your system speakers on if they are external. Also, make sure your system volume is turned up. To check system volume, double-click the speaker icon on your desktop toolbar. This will open your Volume Control window. Use the slider bar to raise the system volume. Q: I am trying to install to a Windows 2000 system. I received the following error message: "Some parts of your system did not satisfy the minimum system requirements for Big Game Hunter Platinum: A Windows 95/98 compatible operating system." A: At the time of this game's initial release, some, but not all video cards have 100% supported DirectX 8.0 drivers for Windows 2000. You may continue to install at your own discretion. If any problems arise, please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% Windows 2000 DirectX 8.0 compliant drivers. NOTE: This product uses Microsoft's DirectX 8.0 technology, which requires your system to have the latest Windows 95/98/00 drivers that fully support DirectX 8.0. Q: Some of the voiceovers for the Warden, Lodge, and Landowner do not play. A: Cabela’s Big Game Hunter Platinum uses compression for some of the voiceovers. To install the compression Codec (you will need your Windows install CD): - Double click on My Computer. - Double click on Control Panel. - Double click on Add/Remove Programs. - Click the Windows Setup tab. - Highlight Multimedia in the Components section. - Click Details. - Make sure Audio Compression is checked. - Click OK to close the Multimedia window. - Click OK to add the new component. Q: I am running Windows 95 and when I start the game I just get a black screen. I cannot play. A: The game requires a file called “comctl32.dll”. Windows 95 has an older version of this file that Big Game Hunter 4 does not recognize. You must upgrade this file and the best way to do so, is to go to the link we have provided below and Choose “Download 50comupd.exe”. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q186/1/76.asp Q: I got an Invalid Page Fault when uninstalling Big Game Hunter 4. Did the game get uninstalled? A: This happens when the directory path that the game is installed to exceeds 84 characters. Despite the error, the game will, in fact, be uninstalled. Q: When installing Big Game Hunter Platinum, I got the following message: “You appear to be short of disk space required for virtual memory. The installation of the game and particularly DirectX may fail. It is recommended that you free additional drive space, prior to continuing the installation. Would you like to continue with the installation process?” I got this message even though I had plenty of virtual memory and hard drive space. A: If your computer meets the minimum requirements listed on the box (particularly 250MB of uncompressed hard drive space plus 50MB of additional space for the Windows swap file), then you can safely ignore this message. The game will install successfully. Q: While playing in the Video Range or 3D Range, I lost all firearm sound effects. Whenever I pull the trigger no sound effect is heard. A: Changing audio settings in the Options screen or starting a new game will restore firearm sounds. Q: When using a custom map in Custom Hunt mode, my hunter is able to walk through some objects. A: In the Custom Hunt Editor, when deleting an object that partially overlaps another, the “blockers” that are shared by the two objects are removed. This leaves an area of the remaining object that can be walked through. The missing blockers can be replaced using the Invisible Blocker item from the Objects toolbar. Q: When trying to access any of the main game modes from the main menu screen, the mouse cursor turns into a “hall of mirrors” where the cursor seems to continually duplicate itself and smear graphics across the screen. A: Make sure that you have a Cabela’s Big Game Hunter Platinum CD in the CD ROM drive. This problem will occur if you try to play the game without a CD, or if your CD ROM drive is not able to read the CD. Also ensure that the CD is clean and free of scratches. Q: Whenever I try to click on an animal, the target reticle shows up as a red circle with an “X” through it. This happens even when I have a clear shot at the animal and there are no objects blocking my line of sight. A: Make sure that you have a Cabela’s Big Game Hunter Platinum CD in the CD ROM drive. This problem will occur if you try to play the game without a CD, since the game will not be able to access the animal videos when you click on an animal. You also need to make sure that you have a clear line of sight between you and the animal, and that you have a firearm or bow in the slot of your pack that is labeled “firearm/bow”. In addition, you may not have a decompressor that is suitable for playing .avi movies. Visit the support section of www.activisionvalue.com, where you can download and install the patch called lv5play. Q: I am in the video range and can't get out. How do I exit? A: You may be experiencing texture and/or graphic loss. If you do not see the Exit button, your video card may have problems with hardware acceleration. You need to set Graphics Acceleration to Basic in your System Control Panel. 1. Go to the Start menu on your taskbar and select Settings -> Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the System icon. 3. Click on the Performance tab. 4. Click on the Graphics button. 5. In the Graphics dialog box, position the Hardware Acceleration slider to Basic. (Note: This has been seen on a Creative 3D Blaster Savage 4 video card and the above answer fixed the problem.) Q: Graphics are missing and my menu bar is flickering on the screen. What should I do? A: Some video cards may have problems with hardware acceleration. (Note: This has been seen on a Creative 3D Blaster Savage 4 video card and the above answer fixed the problem.) Q: Why does the game slow down when I use the zoom feature? A: Depending on the speed of your system and your video card, you may notice that the game plays more slowly when you zoom out in the top-down view. To improve performance, upgrade your video card or add memory to your system.
