Insert the Barbie(R) Super Sports(R) CD-ROM into your drive. 2. If you have the AutoRun feature enabled for your CD-ROM, the installation will start automatically and you can skip the following two steps. - Click Start and then Run from the Windows® 95 or 98 Taskbar - Type D:\setup (D: Refers to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM drive is not D:, type the appropriate drive letter.) 3. Click Next and follow the Installation Instructions. 4. Review the 'ReadMe' file for any important last minute information. 5. After Setup is complete. You'll find an icon for Barbie® Super Sports(TM) CD-ROM located within Programs under the Start menu in the Windows® 95 or 98 Taskbar. RUNNING BARBIE® SUPER SPORTS(TM) CD-ROM 1. Insert the Barbie® Super Sports(TM) CD-ROM into your drive. 2. When the Autostart window appears, click the Play button to start the program. 3. You can also run the program from the Windows® Taskbar, by clicking Start/Programs/Barbie/Barbie Super Sports or double click the Barbie® Super Sports(TM) shortcut icon on your desktop. UNINSTALLING BARBIE® SUPER SPORTS(TM) CD-ROM 1. From the Windows® Taskbar, click Start/Programs/Barbie/Barbie SuperSports/Uninstall Barbie Super Sports and follow the on-screen prompts WELCOME TO BARBIE® SUPER SPORTS(TM) CD-ROM! Get ready to explore the thrills and challenges of in-line skating and snowboarding. Put on your skates and spin, flip and jump around colorful summertime settings. Jump on your snowboard and race, flip and spiral down winding snow-covered mountain slopes and more. Compete on all levels by yourself or with another player. Watch instant replays of your best moves, take snapshots and print them out. You can even win awards that print out too! GETTING STARTED Playing One or Two Players · Choose either a one or two player game by clicking on the appropriate button. Starting a NEW game · Click on NEW GAME to start a new game, then enter your name in the name box. · Your name will automatically be added to the saved game list on the right. · Your game will be saved under your sign-in name when you exit the CD-ROM. NOTE: If you start a new game using the same sign-in name as a previously saved game, your previously saved game will be deleted and replaced by your new game. Starting a SAVED game · Click on SAVED GAME to continue playing a previously saved game. · Click on the name of the game you wish to play from the saved game list on the right, then click on the check mark button. · Your game will automatically be saved when you exit the CD-ROM. Deleting a SAVED game · You may save up to ten games in the saved game list. · Once you've reached the ten game limit, you will be prompted to delete a saved game before you can start a new game. · To delete a SAVED game, click on the name of the game you want to delete, then click on the trash can. CHOOSING A CHARACTER · You can play as Barbie® Christie(TM), Kira(TM) or Teresa(TM). Just click on the character of your choice. · To choose a different character, return to the sign-in screen and start a new game, then select the character. SELECT YOUR SPORT! · It's time to select your sport! Do you want to In-Line Skate or Snowboard? · Click on the skates to go skating. · Click on the snowboard to go boarding. · Change your sport at any time during the game by clicking the sport selection button on the Toolbar. (See "Getting Around - Using Your Toolbar.") USING THE MOUSE In-Line Skating · Click the left button once to start. · Click twice to go faster. · Click three times for full speed. · Click the right button to skate backwards, click right button again to return to going forward. · Press the space bar during play to change tricks. SELECTING OUTFITS AND EQUIPMENT: THE SPORTS SHOPS The Skate and Snowboarding Shops · You can choose cool new fashions in lots of fun colors and styles. Use your tickets to upgrade your equipment and try out more fun tricks. · There are two sports shops: a Snowboard Shop & Skate Shop. · To explore each shop, move the arrow to the left and right. · In the Skate Shop, you can choose from a selection of short outfits and skates. · In the Snowboard Shop, you can choose from a selection of shirts, pants and snowboards. · Begin by choosing an outfit. · Click on the arrows below the racks of clothing to see your choices, then click on the item you want to wear. (Note: Some outfits will require a larger amount of "Tickets". To earn more tickets, you will need to return to the game and score more points.) · Select your equipment by clicking on the snowboard or pair of skates on the wall behind the cash register. Using Your Tickets to Upgrade Equipment · As you play the game, you earn points. The more points you score, the more tickets you'll earn! · You can trade in your tickets for different outfits and new equipment. · Roll over each item in the shop with your mouse to learn how many tickets you need to trade. · Each pair of skates and each snowboard comes with three cool new tricks. You can select each trick by pressing the spacebar on your keyboard as you play. · You can return to the shop to choose a new outfit or upgrade your equipment at any point in the game by using the "ToolBar" · Once you upgrade your outfit and equipment, they are saved with your game and can be used any time within that game by returning to the shop and selecting them again. PLAYING THE GAME · Get ready to go for it! It's time to play! Have fun exploring all of the levels. Each level has a different challenge. Earn points and tickets by doing tricks and cool moves. The faster you complete each level, the more tickets you earn. After you've completed each level, check out a cool movie and print your award. · Remember: You can select new tricks by pressing the spacebar on your keyboard. Game Modes · You can play the games in three different modes: · Free Form - Have fun and explore at your own pace. · Race Against the Clock - Challenge yourself to complete each level as quickly as you can! · Two-Player - Compete against another player by taking turns and completing the levels. Watch a Cool Movie · Once you've completed a level, check out the cool movie. Then your award will appear on the screen. Click on the Printer to print it out! IN-LINE SKATING Learning to skate · To skate faster, click on the left mouse button. When you click three times, you are at full speed. · To skate backwards, click on the right mouse button. · To slow down, simply stop clicking. Your character will automatically slow down and come to a stop. · Press the spacebar to choose new tricks. GAME LEVELS Skate Practice Area · The in-line skate practice area is where you can get used to your new skate moves and awesome jumps! · This is where you can learn how to control your character before exploring any of the levels. · When you are ready to play, skate through one of the four entrance gates. Aquatic Park · Enter through the Dolphin gate. Discover a water park surrounded by palm trees and a sandy beach. · There are four purple Octopus fountains, four yellow fish ponds and one Dolphin fountain in this level. · Your challenge is to activate all four Octopus fountains. Then skate towards the big Dolphin fountain. · Try skating on the ramps and rails! · Can you find the secret boardwalk? Spring Mountain · Enter the Mountain opening and you'll see two paths that wind down a mountain slope. They end at an elevator that takes you over a sparkling waterfall and back to the top! · Your goal is to avoid obstacles and activate all the objects in the course. · This is a great place to race and expect a friend of Barbie to join you on a race down the mountain! · Speed bumps slow you down, so try to avoid them too! · Remember to ride over the finish line to complete the level. The Carnival · Enter through the giant Clown Mouth! · Your goal is to find and complete any three of the six game challenges. · Explore ALL the rides. · Visit the maze, slingshot loop, bulls eye jump, pop up rail and monkey island. · Watch out for banana peels! · Can you find a way to grab a balloon? Funky Skate Park · Enter through the double ramp gate. · You goal is to skate to all four corner ramp areas. · Ride each ramp and grab all of the Barbie® "B"s. · Then skate to the big middle ramp area. Do as many tricks as you can before your time runs out! SNOWBOARDING Learning to Snowboard · Click the left mouse button to get moving. · If you get stuck, click the left mouse button to "hop" out and get back on the trail. · Click the left mouse button before going over a jump to do the best tricks and collect items in the air. GAME LEVELS Bunny Slope · Enter through the Bunny Gate. · Click the left mouse button to push off to the Bunny Slope. · Try out your radical snowboarding moves! · Click the right mouse button and your character will switch her stance. · Move the mouse uphill and she'll come to a sliding stop. · Move the mouse downhill to pick up speed. · Remember to spend time working on your snowboarding skills before you hit the slopes. · When you're ready, simply ride through one of the entry gates. Big Trick Trail · Enter through the Big Arch gate. · This snow-covered slope is covered with beautiful pines, launch ramps and snow-covered rocks. · Your challenge is to collect as many sparkling snowflakes as possible before reaching the bottom. · Ride through the terrain and jump off everything in your path. · Remember to click before going over the jumps to do big tricks and collect the snow flakes. Triple Trail Ride · Enter through the Snowman gate. · This level has three winding slopes. · Try riding down all of them! · Race between the flags to activate them, ride through the snowmen and they'll disappear, and ride through the ribbons between the trees. · Try riding over the launch ramp at the bottom. You can earn some big points! · Remember, stay on the trails! Alpine Ice Racing · Enter through the Blue Crystal gate. · This fun icy run leads you on a fast race to the bottom of the mountain. · Look for a friend of Barbie® to join you on a fast-paced race! · Your goal is to race down the mountain as fast as you can. · Remember that ice patches make you go faster, but Blue Ice makes you fall down. Be careful! Barbie® "B" Slope · Enter through the snow-capped Barbie® "B" gate. · Your goal is to go off the snow banks and collect all of the Barbie® "B"s. · Have fun riding and jumping off everything on the trail. · Remember to click before going off the jumps to do big tricks and collect the "B"'s. RACING There are three fun ways to race! You can race against the clock to complete each level in record time, race against a computer character, or take turns racing against a friend in two-player game mode! Race against the clock Use the timer to track your best times. Replay each level again and again and try to beat your own time! Race against a computer character You can enjoy an in-line skating race against a computer character on Spring Mountain and a snowboarding race in the Alpine Ice Race level. To start the Alpine Ice Race, select snowboarding then board through the blue crystal gate. Your computer opponent will automatically join the race. Remember, ice patches make you go faster, but blue ice makes you fall down! To start the Spring Mountain Race, select in-line skating, then skate through the Mountain opening. Your computer opponent will automatically join the race! Click three times to reach your maximum speed - but try not to fall down! Race against a friend Challenge a friend to a friendly competition by taking turns completing the levels. Whoever earns the most points in the fastest time wins! To race against a friend, return to the sign-in screen and select the two-player option, then take turns completing each level. Each of your names and scores will be shown at the top of the screen when it's your turn to play! CHOOSING COOL TUNES · Click on the CD in the Tool Bar. · You will see your selection of cool songs. · Click on the song you want to play. · If you want to turn the music off, click on the musical note with a line through it. · When you are ready to return to the game, click on the Back Arrow. NOTE: To play the Barbie® Super Sports(TM) CD-ROM songs on your regular CD-player, insert the CD according to the manufacturer's instructions and skip track #1. HINTS AND TIPS · Click the left mouse button before you go over a jump to do your biggest snowboarding moves and collect objects in the air. · Remember - look for secret areas! · There are fun clickables in the sports shops to explore. See what you can find! · Click on the Question Mark in the Tool Bar and Barbie® will give you important game hints. · Take snapshots during the game by pressing on the Return/Enter Key on your keyboard. · As soon as you sign in, your game is automatically saved under your name. · When you have enough tickets, remember to visit the shop to upgrade your outfit and equipment. · Each new piece of equipment comes with new tricks! · You can always switch sports by clicking on the Sports Selection button in the Tool Bar. · If you want to change your tricks, press the Space Bar on your keyboard until you find the Trick icon you want. · Once you upgrade your outfit and equipment, they are yours forever (under the current sign-in name). GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS Please reference the READ ME file from the Barbie® Super Sports(TM) CD-ROM for the latest important information. A) IF DISPLAY OR GRAPHICS PROBLEMS OCCUR 1. Make sure that your display setting is at 640x480 resolution and 16-bit color. 2. Refer to your system or Windows® documentation. 3. Contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. (Updated Video Drivers may be available via the Internet) B) IF SOUND PROBLEMS OCCUR 1. Barbie® Super Sports(TM) CD-ROM makes extensive use of your computer's sound card. While this program is running, other applications will not be able to play sounds or music through the sound card. Even when minimized, Barbie® Super Sports(TM) may not always be able to release the sound card for other applications. If this is the case, the sound card will only become available to other applications after you exit Barbie®Super Sports (TM). If your sound system is configured with an incorrect or outdated sound driver, the sound may not play properly. Contact your sound card manufacturer to obtain the current sound drivers. (Updated SOUND Drivers may be available via the Internet). Barbie® Super Sports(TM) plays on systems with 8-bit or higher sound cards. 16-bit or higher sound cards are recommended, since they provide better performance and higher quality audio reproduction. C) IF THE PROGRAM RUNS SLOWLY: 1. Close any unnecessary applications that may be running. 2. Be sure you are running Windows® enhanced mode and that the Virtual Memory settings are active. Refer to the performance tips in the Read Me file or your Windows® documentation. D) IF DIFFICULTIES ARE ENCOUNTERED WHILE PRINTING: 1. Make sure your printer is plugged into your computer correctly, plugged in to a power outlet and turned ON. (also- make sure your printer is in the Ready mode) 2. Make sure your computer is not connected to a Network printer. This program will not print on a Network system.
