Insert the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 2. If you have the Auto Run feature enabled for your CD-ROM, the installation will start automatically and you can skip to step 3. • Click Start and then Run from the Windows(R) 98 Taskbar. • Type d:/setup. (d: refers to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM drive is not d:, type the appropriate drive letter.) 3. Choose the Setup button and follow the Installation Instructions on screen. 4. Review the 'Read Me' file for any important last minute information. After Setup is complete, you'll find an icon for the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM located within Programs under the Start menu in the Windows(R) 95 or 98 Task bar and on your desktop as an icon. Running the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM 1. Insert the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 2. When the Autostart window appears, click the Play Now button to run the program. 3. You can also select Start from the Windows(R) 98 Taskbar, then search through the Programs/Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM menu to run the program. 4. If the CD-ROM is already inserted, just click on the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover desktop icon. Uninstalling the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM 1. From the Windows(R) 98 Start Menu, click Programs. 2. Find and click on the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM menu item. 3. Click the Uninstall Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM icon and follow the on-screen prompts. Introduction With the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM, you can exchange makeover secrets with Barbie(R) and her friends, and create awesome makeover transformations! • The Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM puts YOU and your friends in the makeup chair. Just take a snapshot of yourself or your friends, import it into the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover CD-ROM and you'll soon be creating your own makeover magic! • You can import photos using several methods: CD-ROMS, floppy disks, digital cameras, including the Barbie(R) Digital Camera (sold separately), and scanners. The quick import feature allows you to simply import your photo by simply dragging it into the My Photos folder! • Transform Barbie(R) and her friends into glamorous models! • Create your very own colors of lipstick, blush and eyeshadow! • Design and print postcards, fashion shots, and CD covers with Barbie,(R) her friends or YOU as the cover model! • Create fabulous makeovers over and over again! Getting Started There are 5 main areas and screens of the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover program: • Mirrors Screen • Import Screen • Makeover Studio • Makeup Kits Gallery • Glamour Photo Shoot Each area has special navigation and control buttons described next to take you anywhere in the program! Just click on the buttons that appear on each screen to move to the other areas of the game. When you arrive at a screen for the first time, Barbie(R) will tell you where you are and the cool things you can do! Mirrors Go to the Mirrors Screen to choose a model to makeover. Import Screen In the Import Screen, create a head model from a face photo of you or a friend! Makeover Studio Choose to change your makeup, pick special accessories and change your hair all from the Makeover screen! Makeup Kits Gallery View makeup kits for Barbie(R) and her friends, custom kits and kits that you create in the Makeup Kits Gallery. Glamour Photo Shoot Photograph your model against custom backdrops and layouts in the Glamour Photo Shoot area. Model Gallery From the Model Gallery, select custom head models for makeovers. Image Gallery View, delete, or import BMP or JPEG photo images of your or a friend's face saved in the My Photos folder. Camera Go to the Upload Screen and upload photos taken with the Barbie(R) Digital Camera. Options Gadget Adjust sound and music, look up computer specifications, and view credits from the Options Gadget. "Ask Barbie(R)" Help Activate Voice Help by selecting the "Ask Barbie(R)" Help Button. Click on a particular icon or button to learn more about its function. Click on the background or press Escape to turn Voice Help off and return your cursor to an arrow. Quit When you are finished playing, click the Quit button. The Options Gadget Click the Music Note button to display the Options Gadget and to set up your Music & Sound. • Choose a song to listen to as you create a makeover. Click on the number for the song you want to hear. The song will play until another one is chosen. • Click the Random Play button to listen to songs in random order. • To adjust the volume for the audio, click the Volume arrows. Click the lower left arrow to decrease the volume. Click the upper right arrow to increase the volume. • To turn voice, music or sound effects on or off, click the On/Off buttons. The On/Off buttons rotate right to the red position to be turned off and left to the green position to be turned on. • Click the X button to close the Options Gadget and continue play. Special Bonus! This CD-ROM can by played on any audio CD player. Just put the CD in and skip Track #1. .The Mirrors Screen >From the Mirrors Screen, you can start a makeover, check out the makeup kits or select a custom model of yourself or Barbie(R) and friends! Choose who you want to makeover! The four mirrors display images of Barbie,(R) Christie,(TM) Kira(TM) and Teresa.(TM) Click on one of them and you can start a makeover instantly! The large center mirror is reserved for your own custom model image or a friend's! The mirror will be empty if you have not created a custom model of your face! To do so you need to import your digital image! Importing a Digital Image for a Makeover • Import your digital photograph into your computer using the following: • An image saved on a floppy disk or CD-ROM (not included.) • An image taken with a digital camera (note: For Instructions on instantly uploading images taken with the Barbie(R) Digital Camera, please read the section "Using Images from the Barbie(R) Digital Camera"). • A scanner (not included) to scan a photograph, or image from other sources. To get the best results, use images of 24-bit color and 256 by 256 pixels. • Make sure that your digital images are saved as Bitmap (.bmp or .BMP) or JPEG (.jpg or .JPG) files. Important: You will not be able to use your digital image in the program if you import photos that are not in one of these file formats. • Simply drag or copy and paste your digital photo into the 'My Photos' folder installed on your desktop. You can also find this in: Program Files/Mattel Media/Barbie Digital Makeover/ Photos/Export, or in another directory that you created during installation of the program. • Click the Import button directly underneath the center mirror on the Mirrors Screen. If no head model is in the mirror, this button will take you to the Image Gallery to select a photo to create a custom model. • In the Image Gallery you will see photos you've added to the 'My Photos' folder. Click the one you want to use and click the check mark (Done button). • You will be taken to the Import Screen where you can size your photo, and adjust position and coloring to create a Custom Head Model. Once you're satisfied with your model, be sure to save it to the Model Gallery by clicking the Save icon. Then click the Mirror icon to return to the Mirrors Screen. • From the Mirrors Screen, click on any makeup kit to go to the Kit Gallery and choose any kit or make your own makeup! • Click the Makeover button to go to the Makeover Studio and begin your makeover! Image & Photography Tips To create a great photo image of you or a friend for a makeover, keep in mind the following tips: • Pull your hair back, away from your face. • Keep your face forward. • Keep your chin straight and lips closed. • Smile slightly, without showing your teeth. • Take a close up picture, filling the photo frame with your face. Uploading Pictures from the Barbie(R) Digital Camera To upload photos taken with your Barbie(R) Digital Camera (not included) attach the camera to the computer and click the Barbie(R) Digital Camera icon on the Import screen. If you take pictures while the camera is attached to the computer, the photos will automatically be displayed in a frame on the page. If you leave the screen without saving the photos, they will be deleted. To save your image and play with it in the Barbie(R) Digital Makeover program, follow these steps: 1. Click on the photo you want, then click the green Save Folder button with the pink arrow. Click "Yes" when asked to save your selected photos. You will be asked if you want to save the selected photos. If you click "No", ALL of your photos will be saved to the Scrapbook. 2. To delete a photo, select the image, then click the Trash Can. 3. Export your photos into the 'My Photos' folder by clicking the Export icon. When the dialogue box appears, click on .bmp or .jpeg and the photo will appear in the 'My Photos' folder. 4. Click the CD-ROM Icon to return to the game. 5. Follow the instructions in the 'Importing your Digital Image' section to continue. The Image Gallery The images stored in your 'My Photos' folder on the desktop will appear in the Image Gallery. Choose a photo to import for a makeover by clicking the left or right arrows below the Gallery Window. Select the face image you want to import and click the Done button (check mark). The face image will appear in the Import Screen area. Zoom! For a larger view of a particular face image, click on the image, then click the Zoom button to magnify it. Click the Zoom button again to clear the zoom window. If you click the Done button while in a magnified view, the face image will be taken to the Import Screen area. Delete To delete a face, select it and click the Trash button. Click anywhere in the background if you change your mind. You cannot delete a face while in the magnified view. The Import Screen: Creating a Custom Model In the Import Screen, you can transform your digital image into a custom head model or modify an existing custom head model. When you enter the Import Screen, the Setup Mirror will contain the head model you have chosen. The Import screen also includes all of the tools needed to turn your face image into a custom head model to use for a makeover. Aligning & Sizing Align and size your model's face. Head Shape Choose a head shape that works best for your model's face. Adjust Lip/Eye Adjust the lip and eye outlines to fit your model's face. Color: Hair/Skin Select hair colors and skin tones that best match your model's. Save Model Save your current model in the Model Gallery. Done Return to the Mirrors Screen. Aligning & Sizing It's very important that the head model you use in your makeover is aligned and sized properly in the mirror. • Click the Alignment button to size and position the face. • Click the Up, Down, Left and Right arrows on the setup mirror to move the face. • Click the Rotate Left and Rotate Right buttons until the image faces forward. • Zoom in or out with the Shrink and Grow buttons, until the face fills the mirror. • Click the Factor Setting button to toggle between 2X, 4X and 6X and increase or decrease the degree of movement, rotation and zoom. Choosing Head Shape Click the Head Shape button to select the head shape that most closely resembles the face in your photo. Note: Once you have selected a head shape you may have to go back and resize your image to make it fit correctly on the head model. Adjusting your Lips & Eyes Click the Lip/Eye button to define the eye and lip areas for perfect makeup application. • Click the Lip button and use the positioning arrows to move the lips on your model's face. Use the sizing buttons to make the lips match the actual lip area in the digital image. • Click the Eye button and position the eyes on your model's face. Use the sizing buttons to adjust the size of the eye region in the digital image. Coloring Skin & Hair Click the Skin & Hair button to put the finishing touches on your custom model setup. • Click the Skin button to choose and closely match your model's skin tone. Use the up and down arrows to make the tone lighter or darker. Click the side arrow to reset your skin tone to its original color. • Click the Hair Color button to choose one of the five hair colors. You can also change your hair color later in Hair Salon. Once your custom head model is the way you want it, click the Save button (folder with the arrow) to save the image in the Model Gallery. Or, when you return to the Mirrors screen, the last custom head model you selected will be displayed in the center mirror. The Model Gallery In the Model Gallery you can store the different head model images of yourself and your friends that you have customized to work with Barbie(R) Digital Makeover. From the Model Gallery, click on the model you wish to makeover. • Click the left or right arrows to view additional saved head models. • Select the head model you want to makeover. • Click on the model again to undo your selection and choose another image. • Click the Done (Check) button to return to the Mirrors screen with your model. Modify your Model Click the Import button to go to the Import screen and modify your selected head model. From the Import screen, go to the Image Gallery or click on the Barbie(R) Digital Camera icon to choose a different photo of yourself or a friend. Zoom! To magnify a view of your model's face, click the Zoom button. Click it again to clear the zoom window. If you click the Done button (check mark) while in the magnified view, the selected head will be taken back to the Mirrors screen. Delete To delete a custom head model, click on the face and then click the Trash button. Remember that a custom head model cannot be deleted when it is in the magnified view. The Makeup Kits Gallery >From the Mirrors screen, click on the makeup kit located under Barbie,(R) her friends or yourself! This will take you to the Makeup Kits Gallery where you can: • Create or open personal custom makeup kits. • View your personal makeup kit, including lipsticks, eyeshadow and blush colors. • Choose theme makeup kits or the makeup kits for Barbie(R) and her friends. • Create your own makeup colors or modify existing colors using the makeup mixers in the Makeup Factory! Makeup colors from your selected kit will appear in your Makeup Kits Gallery when you return. Selecting a Makeup Kit • To display custom makeup kits for Barbie(R) and her friends, click the "B" button on the table. • Click the Makeup Kit Mirror Initials on the left in the background with the "B" for Barbie(R) "T" for Teresa,(TM) "C" for Christie(TM) or "K" for Kira,(TM) to use their corresponding makeup kits. Each makeup kit includes different makeup and accessories to choose! Try out each one! • To display your own makeup kits that you have created and saved, click the Swirly button on the table. Any kits you have saved will appear in the background mirrors. Toggle through the kits with the Left or Right Arrows and select the kit you want to use. • Click the Polka-Dot button to display special theme makeup kits including Wedding, Glamour, Music, Travel and Sports kits. Click on the makeup kit in the left background you want to use. Each themed kit includes different makeup and accessories! • Change your makeup kit selection at any time by clicking on another makeup kit! Starting Customized Kits • Create a custom makeup kit from a theme kit, the Barbie(R) kit or one of her friends' kits by: • Selecting the kit you like. • Click the check mark and your new kit will appear as a background kit. • Click inside the title area and type the name of your new kit. • You can save up to 100 customized kits! • To rename any saved kit, click inside the Kit Name Box. Use the backspace to erase the name and then type the new one. When you finish typing, your kit will be saved with the new name. • To delete a saved makeup kit, select the kit and click the X button. You cannot delete the theme kits or the kits for Barbie(R) and her friends. The Makeup Mixers You can customize your makeup kit to get just the right look! From the Makeup Kits screen, click on these Makeup Mixer buttons to begin: • Click the purple mixing bowl to launch the Lipstick Mixer. • Click the blue mixing bowl to launch the Blush Mixer. • Click the green mixing bowl to launch the Eyeshadow Mixer. Operating The Mixers Create your own makeup using candies, fruit, flowers and more! Personalize your makeup by adjusting the dial settings; then watch the mixer gadgets blend and shake your ingredients into a customized makeup color. • Choose up to three ingredients. The ingredients are located around the edges of the screen. • Click on an ingredient to select it. • Click on the Ingredient Bowl at the bottom of the screen, in front of the mixing gadgets, to place your ingredient in the bowl. • To hear neat sound effects, change the settings on the on the far left (#1) gadget. • To adjust the shade of your new color from light to dark, change the settings on the mixer gadget in the middle of the screen (#2). • To create a matte, glossy or glittery finish to your makeup mix, adjust the settings on the far right mixer gadget (#3). • When you're happy with the settings on your gadgets, and the ingredients you've chosen, click the green "Check" button in front of the bowl and watch what comes next! • To empty your ingredients and start over, click the red "X" button in front of the bowl. Once your makeup creation is done, you can click the green "Check" in front of your new makeup creation and it will appear in the background area of the screen. If the background area for makeup is full, click on the makeup in the background that you want to replace, and then click on the green check mark. Remember that your forward tube or tray must be empty before you can operate the mixer and create more makeup. Try These Fun Makeup Recipes • Passion Blush: one Plum and two Roses. • Lickety Split Lipstick: Red Cherry, Purple Grape & Pink Soda Bottle. Adjust the Finishing Mixer Gadget (#3) for a glossy finish. • Mystique Eyeshadow: Purple Violet, Green Lollipop. Turn the Shading Mixer Gadget (#2) to the right to deepen the color. The Makeover Studio The Hair Salon, Makeup Area and Accessories Boutique can all be found in the Makeover Studio. Barbie(R) and each of her friends have a special makeover kit already set up. Get creative and have some fun! Use the following buttons to go to the various stations in the Makeover Studio: Makeup Get your model looking fantastic in the Makeup Area. Accessories Go to the Accessories Boutique and choose accessories to complement your model's new look. Hair Salon Create an awesome hairstyle by going to the Hair Salon. The Makeup Area The Makeup Area is the first place you arrive in the Makeover Studio. The makeup colors from the kit you selected in the Makeup Kits Gallery are ready for you to use. Applying Makeup Choose the makeup you want to apply and move the cursor to your model's face. When your cursor moves over a spot where you can apply makeup, the cursor will become highlighted. Click and drag to apply. Lipstick • Click one of the lipsticks to pick one up. These are located to the far right on the table. • Move the lipstick cursor towards the lips, click the mouse button and drag to apply. • Move the cursor along the lips. Hold down your mouse button and make continued strokes to add more color. • Click on the background to drop the lipstick tube. Your cursor will return to normal. Blush • Click one of the blushes and your cursor will become a brush. The blush is located in the middle of the table. • Click on the face and hold down the mouse button during strokes. Continued strokes make for a deeper coat. We recommend circular motions for a nice even glow. • Click on the background to drop the brush. Your cursor will return to normal. Eyeshadow • Click on one of the eyeshadows located on the far left on your table. Your cursor will become an applicator. • Move your applicator just above the eyes, holding down the mouse button. Move it across the upper eyelids to apply. The more that is applied, the thicker the eyeshadow. • Click on the background to drop the brush. Your cursor will return to normal. The Cotton Ball and Washcloth • Use the Cotton ball to lighten, smooth and blend your makeup application. • Click on the Cotton ball. Drag it over areas with makeup to gradually adjust the color of the area. • Click on the Bar of Soap to get the washcloth. You can remove makeup with a single wipe anywhere on your model's face. • Click on the background and your cursor will return to normal. Accessories Boutique A custom set of twelve cool accessories is displayed on your Accessories Table. Earrings & Necklaces Click on an earring or necklace to pick it up with your cursor. Move it to the ears or neck and your cursor will become highlighted, then click to secure it. To remove an accessory, replace it with another item, or click and drag it off of the model. Click anywhere on the background and your cursor will return to normal. Face Decals • Click on a decal displayed in your decal tray. Move it to the model's face and click to secure it. A decal cannot be picked up once it has been placed. • To remove a decal, use the Washcloth or apply another decal on top of it. • You can paint over decals with makeup, or remove them with the Cotton Ball or Washcloth. The Hair Salon Hair Stylist Click on the arrows beneath the Hair Stylist to toggle between the following special styles: Straight, Bob, Wavy, Wavy with Bangs, and Ponytail. Click the style displayed and it will appear on your model. You can also click the right or left arrows to rotate your model's head left or right to see your style from different angles! Cutting & Growing Cutting Click on the scissors icon, click and hold the mouse down on the hair, then drag the scissors upward along the hair to trim it. Growing Click on the brush icon, click and hold the mouse down on the hair, then drag the brush in a downward motion along the hair to grow it out. Color Dyes Choose the hair color you want from an array of fancy dyes! • Click the arrow buttons beneath the color dye bottle to select a fabulous color! • Click on the color dye bottle, and your cursor is transformed. • Click on your hair to apply the color. Hair Mascara Choose from an outrageous mascara colors to create a cool, hip look! • Select mascara by clicking the arrow buttons beneath the mascara tube. • Click on the mascara tube and drag it slowly through your model's hair to add streaks. Shampoo Use the shampoo to remove hair mascara and dye. • Click on the bottle to select it. • Click and drag it over the color you want to remove. • To completely remove mascara, re-select a hairstyle using the Hair Stylist or apply another dye color to your hair. Head Swap Option Use the Head Swap option in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to makeover a different model. Click the left or right arrows to view other models. Click on the model you want to use. That model will take the place of the previous model in the mirror with your makeover transferred intact! The Head Swap works the same way in the Makeup Area, Accessories Boutique, Hair Salon and Glamour Photo Shoot. Barrette Application • Choose the barrette you want by clicking the left or right arrows below the Barrettes. • Click on the Barrette to pick it up. • Move the cursor with the barrette to your model's hair. Click when it becomes highlighted to place it. You can place the barrette on the right or left side of the model's hair. • To remove a barrette, click on it to pick it up and click anywhere on the screen to discard it. • Selecting another hairstyle removes any barrettes you have placed. When you are done, click the Photo button to go to the Glamour Photo Shoot. The Glamour Photo Shoot Now that your model makeover is the coolest transformation yet, it's time for the Glamour Photo Shoot! Use the Head Swap option to choose which head model you want to photograph. Rotate your model by clicking the arrow buttons beneath the photo window. You can also click on the images located on the screen to select from the following: • Custom backdrops and layouts like a magazine cover • Pictures with Barbie(R) and Friends • Change fashions Snapping & Saving Photos Click the Photo Flash Camera button and you will be rewarded with a zoomed view of your spectacular photo. Click the Done button (check mark) to zoom back out again. With every click of the Photo Flash Camera button, a new photo will automatically be saved in your Photo Gallery. Next, you can return to the program and continue with the makeover on the current model. However, if you exit the game, your made over image will only be saved in the Photo Gallery and cannot be modified. You will have to start a new makeover with your customized head model images from the Model Gallery the next time you play Barbie(R) Digital Makeover. Printing • Press the Print button to print your photo in the regular or zoomed views. Add a personal touch to your print outs by typing in the name of your model, a custom headline, or the name of your makeover designer. • Inputting text: Click in the text box below your photo frame and type. • Changing text: Click in the text box and use the backspace key to erase. Type again. Photo Gallery • Select the photo's icon from the glamour Photo Shoot screen to go to your Photo Gallery. • To delete a Photo Gallery image, click on the image and click the Delete button twice. • Press the Print button to print your photo.
