Solution: disable the read-ahead option for your CD-ROM drive. Steps: For Windows '95: 1- Double-click on the "My Computer" icon 2- Double-click on the "Control Panel" icon 3- Double-click on the "System" icon 4- Click on the "Performance" tab 5- Click on the "File System..." button 6- Click on the "CD-ROM" tab 7- Look for "Optimize Access pattern for..." and click on 'down-arrow' button 8- Click on the "No read-ahead" option from the drop-down menu. Problem #2: You removed the CD-ROM from the drive and Windows reported a "General Protection Fault". Solution: This won't damage your computer or your software but the only solution is to shut down your computer and restart. The CD-ROM disk must remain in the CD-ROM drive during game play. Problem #3: You pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del but the Anastasia background music/sounds are still playing. Solution: The only easy way to shut off the music is to QUIT Anastasia normally OR shut off the computer and restart it. To quit Anastasia without causing any problems, press Alt-F4. Problem #4: Will you be able to play saved games from the Windows 3.1 version of Anastasia if you upgrade to Windows '95. Solution: No. You can try, but you may encounter some problems. The best thing to do is to "uninstall" Anastasia, then re-install. This will remove the Windows 3.1 version and replace it with the Windows '95 version (which is much better). Problem #5: The Windows 95 Taskbar doesn't hide when you run Anastasia. Solution: Right-Click on the Taskbar and click on Properties. Uncheck the "Always on top" check box. Screen Savers Screen savers may cause problems when running Anastasia. Please disable them before loading program. Virus Protection Software Virus protection software may cause problems when running Anastasia. Please disable any virus protection such as SAM© before loading program. Video Drivers and Video Boards Some video boards and drivers do not properly support all of the graphics display functions required by Windows and therefore are not supported by Anastasia. If you experience problems running Anastasia software - particularly incorrect functionality, erroneous color display, or possibly even crashes - you can try the following steps to resolve the problem: - Make sure you are running the appropriate driver for your video card (check using Windows Setup in the "Main" Program Group). - Make sure you are using a 640 x480 resolution driver set at 256 colors. - Make sure you have the latest version of your video board display driver (contact your video board manufacturer for more information). Maximizing Performance Quit all other applications before running Anastasia. This will maximize the memory available to the title. Performance will also be greatly enhanced by the use of a double speed or better CD-ROM drive.
