The further out the slower the framerate. * 3D Hardware Turns 3D hardware on and off. IMPORTANT: Player must completely exit game and start it again for the new 3D hardware setting to take effect. * Scenery Detail Sets low, medium, or high detail. These settings dramatically affect framerate and required system and video memory. * Joystick Turns joystick on or off. IMPORTANT: If joystick does not turn on or player turns sharply to one side while playing game please be sure joystick is calibrated and set to controller ID 1 in the Windows/Control Panel/Game Controllers setup. * Audio Turns sound on or off * Background Switches between 2D or 3D background. For systems with 3D hardware, 3D backgrounds are usually faster. For systems with no 3D hardware, 2D backgrounds are faster. * Number of Opponents Sets the number of computer based opponents. The fewer the opponents the faster the framerate. * Level of Difficulty Sets the difficulty level to Normal, Advanced, or Expert. * Fog Sets fog to Off, Normal, Dense or Dynamic. Dynamic fog changes density as player proceeds down track. For night racing fog works the same but the fog color is black making the scenery fade into darkness. * Character Detail Switches between Low or High character detail. IMPORTANT: Setting detail to high DRAMATICALLY slows down framerate. ********* Important Notes Certain settings in the options menu may or may not be adjustable depending on whether your video/3d card can support that feature. If you do not have a 3D card there are features in the game that will be missing.
